I was chocked to find out that Eric past away and I cried a lot when I read all the beautiful comments people has written about him. I just met him a few times and was filming him playing together with Ravi at the Leela Center in England. I was so inspired by hearing him and touched by his absolutely beautiful heart! Thank you Eric for the time you stopped by! Thank you Eric for the time you stopped by! // Amrit Forss - Sweden
Amrit Forss - Apr 07
hey, although Eric has very sadly passed into a better place his soul and spirit still lives on in his music! anyone who was lucky enough to see him live have been extremely gifted! i didn't get the chance to see him and for this im deeply upset. Eric has been a real inspiration to me and for if it wasn't for his style and playing i wouldn't have started the accoustic guitar and i'd still be drowing in clinical electric filth. thank you so much Eric you and your music have saved my soul and for this i am eternally grateful!!!
Seth - May 06
I am utterly shocked I cant believe it I only just found out now there are tears in my eyes Eric was a great guy I met him personaly!!    I saw him play in Frankfurt musikmesse and I have never seen anybody play the acoustic like him I am absolutely shell shocked!    My heart felt condolence to his family I just can't believe it!!!
John Bruce from Germany - Mar 06
Words cannot express...they cannot even stroke the surface. I did not know him, but knew his spirit through my ears. I can only hope, with hand on heart, that he can visit in form of muse and inspiration will continue to be passed on as it always should....
Ben Knight - Feb 06
So sad to hear about your death Eric! You and your heartful guitarplaying was such a gift, and I was fortunate to be blessed by it on several occasions during the Angsbacka festival in Sweden some years ago. I was especially blessed when you played with me in the bar/open stage and now I´m extra glad that I have it recorded. Thank You Eric and blessings to your wife and family. Now rest in the Love that embraces the world. Joakim Kohls, Sweden
Joakim Kohls - Jan 06
Christmas Day 2005; was just talking to my brother,Seamus in Ireland and learned of Eric's death. May he rest in peace. I wasn't aware that he was such an accomplished musician, so I guess one might say: 'Heaven's Orchestra' benefits from our loss. My condolences to his family especially his Day, Raymond (a first cousin of mine).    Peace and love to his music family.    Sr. Rose Waldron, Los Angeles
rose waldron - Dec 05
I met Eric at an after work drinks for the school he was heading up in late 1998 at a pub in Wapping. I had been subscribing to his magazine for a year or so and we chatted about that and life. Certainly a very humble down to earth guy who was embarassed at his "celebrity" status within the guitarist community, Eric was passionate about other artists and helping them to bring their talent to the world, one of those rare players who managed to keep the ego out of his creativity. We are one candle less in the chapel with his passing.
John Savage - Dec 05
what can say that hasn't already been. Is,was and always will be a ledgend and inspiration to all guitarists, musicaians and people alike, gutted I never got the chance to meet him. My deepest sympathy goes out to everyone that knew him. ed
ed lovett - Oct 05
dear candi,so sad to here of erics death nothing ican say but in tears at the moment saw him play many times at nec very gentle guy he loved what he did and loved his music i send my love to you and the children and may you go in gods grace, tony.
tony fowler - Oct 05
I was browsing through a guitar mag this morning and read the sad news.  I had no idea that Eric was ill and this was such a shock to me.  I saw Eric in concert at the Mick Jagger Centre with my son a few years back.  He was brilliant and an inspiration to any aspiring guitarists, both in concert and in his contributions to Guitar Techniques magazine.  It's just not fair!
Derek McGonigle - Oct 05
The sad news from Eric's web site:        Eric Roche: RIP    Tragically, after suffering from cancer for more than a year, Eric Roche has now passed away.    Eric's ‘dance with cancer’ had developed to such an extent that it became untreatable & it has now come to a graceful end.    Eric died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday 6th September 2005 with his wife by his side.    Those of you who were fortunate enough to see Eric in action at one of his shows &/or to meet him personally, you will undoubtedly have been touched by his incredibly dynamic & moving performances; a consummate artist & a deeply spiritual man, one of the most genuine & inspirational people you are ever likely to meet.    A good friend once commented that in a crowded concert room, Eric had the ability to make you feel that he was talking & playing directly to you; as only the greatest artists can do.    RIP Eric Roche. You will be very sadly missed by those whose lives you touched.        Eric's family would like people to know how grateful they are for all the thoughts, words & prayers being directed towards them at this time - it really does mean so much to them.
A friend & fan - Sep 05

Hi Eric,    Just a note to say thanks for a great week at the Guitar school, I really enjoyed it and hope to do it again as I really learnt alot.    I Confirm my order for the 'Guitar Bible'.Let me know the cost and availabilty and I will fwd. same.    in the meantime if you could fwd. transcription of :River is wide and Dawning of the day , I would really appreciate it.    I hope the week did not take too much out of you, as you really pushed yourself. All the students enjoyed it and the overall conclusions were ,that you are basically a brilliant musician/teacher and most important a lovely and genuine person. It was my pleasure to meet you and look forward to doing so again.I wish you a full and speedy recovery and will remember you in  my thoughts and prayers.    Best of luck,
Phillip - Oct 04

I am only 16 years old. I have played the guitar since i was 10. I play all electric blues but after seeing you at the winter gardens inspired me to play a different style. It was exellent i hav never seen anythging like it before, it was money well spent that night. well done and i hope to see you soon!
Luke tidswell - May 04
Went to your gig in Mansfield. Inspirational. I was sad to hear though that you were struck with cancer. I hope you will make a full recovery soon to impress and inspires further with your talents and new compositions. When will "Something" be released on an album and when can I get hold of the DVD (I don't think you can fully appreciate the music without also witnessing the natural energy, intensity and joy you yourself have in playing)
Jonathan - May 04
Eric is taken ill    Eric has been taken ill and will need an operation and extensive recuperation. All gigs until the end of July have been postponed - the following is from his website:    As many people will know, Eric has been experiencing pain in his jaw for the past few months. After numerous tests & consultations, the specialists have discovered that Eric will need hospital treatment during the early part of June ‘04, with an operation taking place on Friday 28th May, to remove one of his saliva glands & part of his lower jaw.    As you can imagine, this will be an extensive operation, which will leave Eric out of ‘gigging’ action for a few weeks.    Therefore & unfotunately, Eric will be unable to fulfil all the musical appearances he has booked during the early part of summer ’04, due to his advised recuperation period. He is very frustrated about this, as (& you definitely know this already) playing the guitar is his life.    As far as possible, all the events Eric is unable to attend in June & July will be re-scheduled for September & October of this year, when he will be on a UK tour & all geared up to do two of the things he does best - perform & play live.    So, due to unforeseen circumstances, Eric Roche will not be performing at the following events:    29th May East Sussex , Black Horse Festival  5th & 6th June Kendal Guitar Festival  8th June Guildford, Electric Theatre  13th June Sevenoaks, The Ship Theatre  14th – 19th June Sound Control ‘week’ - Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London & Bristol  27th June Glasgow (in support of Martin Taylor)  22nd,23rd & 24th July Dundee Guitar Festival  26th July – 5th August Bath Guitar Festival    Any well wishes via email to eric@ericroche.com are more than welcome!    Sincere apologies to events organisers & fans of Eric’s music ….he will make it up to you as soon as he’s feeling better!
Dean Morrison - May 04

Went to see this man in Berkhamsted last Friday. Superb playing with plenty of emotion.  It was nice also knowing why and how some of his songs were produced. I have recommended to many friends that they go and see him when he is in London.
Jose - Mar 04
I've seen Eric perform at the Music Live show at the NEC for the last 2 years. It's worth the entrance money just to watch him play. The guy is so AWESOME and MAGICAL with his playing. It's a privilege and a pleasure to watch and listen to someone who is the complete master of the instrument. Anyone who loves the guitar has got to see Eric play. An amazing experience. A gig with Eric and Tommy Emmanuel together would really be something to savour !!
Paul Wilson - Dec 03

Eric,  I have the CD of GT August 2002, but can't find the magazine anywhere. Is there any way I can get a transcription of your 'Jump' arrangement? I've looked for back-copies in the mag, but they don't do them.  All the best. Jonathan.
Jonathan Pardoe - Jul 03
Eric,    I am the man with the Glastonbury 2003 T-Shirt at the Bluebell Pub.    Thanks for a great gig, one that will live in the memory.  Went to see Yes last night in London, a good gig, but I have to say I enjoyed your gig more.    Thanks for the un prompted dedication at the Bluebell gig, something else that will live in the memory. Thanks again, look forward to the next gigs.
David Wright - Jul 03
Still reeling after seeing your fantastic performance at the Bluebell Inn last night - absolutely brilliant. I bought both your albums on the spot!  So many questions to ask but for now  I wonder if there's a transcription of your arrangement of 'The Water is Wide'?  I'd love to learn it and that would give me a head start - it's just about within my capabilities - maybe you've already done it for Guitar Techniques? If not, they should consider  inviting you  to feature it.  Thanks again,    Steve
Steve Rhenius - Jul 03

Hi Eric,  nice sound files at "virtually acoustic" I'm surfing with my sister, telling her how wonderful you were at the Hastings Beatles gig, where I bought your CD.  You told me you used four pickups in your Lowden. If you ever get time, I'd love to correspond a little about how you came to that arrangement.  Anyway, lovely playing.    Adrienne
