Darren Black and Louise Jordan |
Folk |

Green Note
|
| |
106 Parkway, Camden Town, London, NW1 7AN |
|
Louise Jordan is a young folk singer who provides an enchanting twist on the traditional British folk song. Louise has an “individual approach to traditional songs, firmly keeping alive the spirit and beauty of each, whilst adding her own personality and fresh interpretation.” (Dennis Homes) Having lived, worked and studied in Wiltshire, Birmingham, London and Essex, Louise draws on her varied experience to tell songs of love, l...oss and betrayal with a “beautiful sweet rippling voice and delicate guitar style.” (Havering Folk Club) As a performer Louise has an enormous capacity to empathise and immerses herself in a story as if it were her own. Darren Black is a musician with a rapidly growing profile on the folk/acoustic scene. Described by Rock 'n' Reel magazine as 'a name to note', he hails from a quiet corner of the Welsh valleys and carries a heart-felt honesty in his music. Originally a classical violinist, he later taught himself guitar and folk fiddle. Inspired by bands such as Led Zeppelin and the poignant, melodic lyricism of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, musing soon progressed to song-writing. |

A spellbinding mix of finger-picking guitar and warm vocals from award-winning folk artist Sam Carter is the latest addition to the live music programme at The School Creative Centre in Rye. Armed with a ‘killer voice’ (according to MOBO Award-winning Nitin Sawhney) and the ability to play his guitar ‘like a harp’ (Time Out), as well as an unerring ability to put his personal experiences into a wider perspective, the east London-based songsmith Sam Carter has already had an amazing year after winning Best Newcomer at the BBC Folk Awards in February. Since then he has continued to impress and inspire, receiving adulation from audiences and fellow artists alike.
